Digg extractors

From WandoraWiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Wandora supports extracting information from Digg into a topic map. Extractor starts with menu option File > Extract > Social > Digg URL extractor... or File > Extract > Social > Digg posts extractor.... There are two ways to extract information from either source:

  • The URL extractors look up URLs from topics in context and try to find posts matching those URLs from Digg. If successful, they will add information (description, tags) retrieved from the web api to the topic at hand.
  • The post extractors will extract posts with a certain criteria (currently only the most recent posts by specified users) and create topics into the topic map, merging with those topics that have matching subject identifiers.

See also Del.icio.us extractors.

Digg & Del.icio.us mashup example

This simple example shows how to combine information from two different sources using Digg and Del.icio.us extractors.

I create first a topic in Wandora with base name funniest-resume-mistakes and subject identifier http://jobmob.co.il/blog/funniest-resume-mistakes/. Then I select the topic and start Digg extractor. As the URL has been saved to Digg, the extractor finds description, title, and category for the URL as shown below.

To build up the topic I start the Del.icio.us URL extractor. As someone has also bookmarked and tagged same URL, Del.icio.us extracted tags merge with previously extracted Digg descriptions resulting a topic with both description and several tags. Result topic is shown below.
